This study proposes that both constitutively and rhetorically (through ironic, inferential, and indirect application), Ps 106(105) serves as the substructure for Paul’s argumentation in Rom 1:18–2:11. Constitutively, Rom 1:18–32 hinges on the triadic interplay between “they (ex)changed” and “God gave them over,” an interplay that creates a sin–retribution sequence with an a-ba-ba-b pattern. Both elements of this pattern derive from Ps 106(105):20, 41a respectively. Rhetorically, Paul ironically applies the psalmic language of idolatrous “(ex)change” and God’s subsequent “giving-over” to Gentiles. Aiding this ironic application is that Paul has cast his argument in the mold of Hellenistic Jewish polemic against Gentile idolatry and immorality, similar to Wis 13–15. In Rom 2:1–4, however, Paul inferentially incorporates a hypocritical Jewish interlocutor into the preceding sequence through the charge of doing the “same,” a charge that recalls Israel’s sins recounted in Ps 106(105). This incorporation then gives way to an indirect application of Ps 106(105):23, by means of an allusion to Deut 9–10 in Rom 2:5–11. Secondarily, this study suggests that Paul’s argumentation exploits an intra-Jewish debate in which evocations of the golden calf figured prominently.

Hebrew Wordplay and Septuagint Translation Technique in the Fourth Book of the Psalter

Hebrew Wordplay and Septuagint Translation Technique in the Fourth Book of the Psalter Book Review:

This volume examines numerous Hebrew wordplays not identified and discussed in previous research, and the technique of the Septuagint translators, by offering another criterion of evaluation – essentially, their concern about the style of translating Hebrew into Greek. Elizabeth Backfish's study analyzes seventy-four wordplays employed by the Hebrew poets of Psalms 90-106, and how the Septuagint renders Hebrew wordplay in Greek. Backfish estimates that the Septuagint translators were able to render 31% of the Hebrew semantic and phonetic wordplays (twenty-four total), most of which required some sort of transformation, or change, to the text in order to function in Greek. After providing a thorough summary of research methods on wordplay, definitions and research methodology, Backfish summarizes all examples of wordplay within the Fourth Psalter, and concludes with examples of the wordplay's replication, similar rendition or textual variation in the Septuagint. Emphasising the creativity and ingenuity of the Septuagint translators' work in passages that commentators often too quickly identify as the results of scribal error or a variant Vorlage from the Masoretic text, Backfish shows how the aptitude and flexibility displayed in the translation technique also contributes to conversations in modern translation studies.

Old English Literature and the Old Testament Book Review:

It would be difficult to overestimate the importance of the Bible in the medieval world. For the Anglo-Saxons, literary culture emerged from sustained and intensive biblical study. Further, at least to judge from the Old English texts which survive, the Old Testament was the primary influence, both in terms of content and modes of interpretation. Though the Old Testament was only partially translated into Old English, recent studies have shown how completely interconnected Anglo-Latin and Old English literary traditions are. Old English Literature and the Old Testament considers the importance of the Old Testament from a variety of disciplinary perspectives, from comparative to intertextual and historical. Though the essays focus on individual works, authors, or trends, including the Interrogationes Sigewulfi, Genesis A, and Daniel, each ultimately speaks to the vernacular corpus as a whole, suggesting approaches and methodologies for further study.

with the French original translation: http://www.montfort.org/French/Oeuvres/SAR.htm

An example of unfaithful translation

Faithful translation (by a French-proficient person):

“The first, that it is a probable and proximate sign of eternal reprobation to have negligence [lack of properattention or care; carelessness], lukewarmness [not feeling fervor] and aversion [having a distaste for it]] for the Angelic Saluation which has repaired the world.”

original French text: la première, que c’est un signe probable et prochain de réprobation éternelle, que d’avoir de la négligence, de la tiédeur et de l’aversion pour la Salutation angélique qui a réparé le monde

The unfaithful English translation:

“the first, that if people fail to say the Hail Mary [“fail to say the Hail Mary” is bad translation because it means totally not saying it. The translator gives the reason for the omission as follows.] (the Angelic Salutation which has saved the world) out of carelessness, or because they are lukewarm, or because they hate [hate is too strong a word for aversion] it, this is a sign that they will probably and indeed [‘indeed’ is not in the original French] shortly be condemned to eternal punishment.”
The same message excerpted from A Treatise on the True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin:

“Know, my son, and make all others know,

that it is a probable and proximate sign of eternal

damnation to have an aversion, a lukewarm-

ness, or a negligence, in saying the Angelical

De Dignitate Psalter Pdf Printable

Salutation, which has repaired the whole world.” link to the same quote on A Treatise on the True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin

My understanding of the text is that one would not be necessarily damned shortly after one has recited the Ave with negligence/lukewarmness/aversion; it would mean that one would be commiting mortal sins shortly after reciting the Ave with negligence/lukewarmness/aversion, which would put the person in the state of damnation, or if one is already in the state of damnation, would make one more
proned to sin and/or spiritually blind and make it harder to get out of the state of damnation and placed in state of grace. But it would be reparable, just as negligence/lukewarmness/aversion towards the Ave is reparable.

To fix one’s negligence/lukewarmness/aversion, one would have to:

1. Have tremendous majesty of JESUS and MARIA in mind, so that we will have reverence, which would help one not be distracted with vain thoughts.

De Dignitate Psalter Pdf Gratis

2. Be careful (not negligent) in thinking out the significances of the words of the AVE MARIA, for example AVE means “Rejoice, Immaculate 2nd Eva (Eva’s name reversed to denote that she plays the similar and opposite role of Eva), we salute thee” “MARIA” is not just a name but means sea of graces, sea of sorrow, etc.

When saying “Gratia Plena” one can imagine the image of Our Lady on the Miraculous Medal, rays of grace showering from her hands. We can meditate on the fact that the Holy Ghost has filled her with graces.

De Dignitate Psalter Pdf 2017

3. And pray for the grace of not being negligent/lukewarm/averse when praying the Ave,
first thing in the morning and last thing before sleeping. The prayer attached to the miraculous medal, “O MARY conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee.” may be said before reciting the Ave or group of Aves in order to obtain the grace of reciting the Ave with care, fervour, and relish.

Sea bee outboard manual. Another example of badly translated text:

Blessed Alan says that a nun who had always had great devotion to the Holy Rosary appeared after death to one of her sisters in religion and said to her: “If I were allowed to go back into my body, to have the chance of saying just one single Hail Mary—- even if I said it quickly and without great fervor—-I would gladly go through the sufferings that I had during my last illness all over again, in order to gain the merit of this prayer.” (Blessed Alan de la Roche, De Dignitate Psalterii, Chapter LXIX) This is all the more compelling because she had been bedridden and had suffered agonizing pains for several years before she died. From: http://www.catholictradition .org/Classics/secret-rosary.htm

Blessed Alan also relates that a nun who had always had a great devotion to the Rosary appeared after her death to one of her sisters in religion and said to her, “If I were able to return in my body to have the chance of saying just a single Hail Mary, [ no mention of ‘quickly‘] even without great fervour, I would gladly go through the sufferings that I had during my last illness all over again, in order to gain the merit of this prayer” It is to be noted that she had been bedridden and suffered agonizing pains for several years before she died.
